Turmeric is another one of those incredibly beneficial herbs – filled with antioxidants and anti-inflammatories from the curcuminoids within, it slows down the oxidative process of ageing and reduces inflammation in the body. From joint pain, depression, and cancer, this healing herb is one you want to incorporate into your diet.

The plant belongs to the ginger family and its woody stem is baked in hot ovens and ground into a powder. It’s most commonly associated with Asian cooking, as it gives curries their yellow color; but can also be used to dye food and fabric (so be careful handling it) and aid in health due to the Curcumin.

This amazing compound has many healing benefits, including boosting BDNF – Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, a type of growth hormone in the brain aiding neurons in forming new connections and even multiplying and increasing in number. By increasing BDNF, it may reduce or even reverse many brain diseases and age-related diseases, such as depression and Alzheimer’s.  Curcumin also helps with heart disease and actually reversing the steps of the disease – by improving the function of the lining of the blood vessels (endothelium), which leads to improvement of blood pressure regulation, reduction of blood clots, as well as other benefits. In fact, it is a great substitute to anticoagulants like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and others because of the lack of side effects like ibuprofen overdose, excessive bleeding and hemorrhage, back pain, and headaches. The Curcumin in Turmeric can also help prevent and treat cancer by reducing the growth of new blood vessels in tumors (angiogenesis), inhibiting the spread of cancer (metastasis), and also contributing to the death of cancerous cells. There is even evidence of Curcumin preventing cancer in the first place, especially in the digestive system.

This amazing plant can also help heal the outside of the body because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It aids in wound healing, calming acneic skin and healing acne scars, and controlling psoriasis flares. Tinctures, masks, and pastes are great ways to apply to your skin ailments, but always make sure to perform a patch test first to ensure you don’t have an allergy.

In addition to Turmeric’s healing properties, it also contains manganese, iron, fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, magnesium, and vitamin C. It can improve your body’s ability to digest fats and reduces gas and bloating. While many people have become educated on the health benefits of Turmeric; incorporating it in their cooking, blending into smoothies, or brewing in tea or Golden Milk; the most important thing to remember is that in order to gain the health benefits, black pepper should be consumed with it. Curcumin has poor absorption into the body, but the piperine found in just a pinch of black pepper enhances absorption of curcumin by 2000%. The best way to get your Turmeric is in small doses throughout the day, rather than 1 large dose so start incorporating it into your soups, roasted veggies, and enjoy a glass of calming, warm Golden Milk before bed.

  • 1 cup ice
  • ½ banana
  • 2½ cup hemp milk
  • 2 scoops Arbonne Chocolate Protein
  • 1 scoop Arbonne Fiber Boost
  • 1 tsp Dandy Blend
  • 1 tsp Maca powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 Tbsp flax seeds
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • fresh ginger – about the size of 1st thumb knuckle
  • cacao nibs, shredded coconut, asian pear – to garnish

Directions: Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Top with cacao nibs, shredded coconut, and asian pear slices. Enjoy!
